Team Fury is Going to the World Championship!

Established in 1995, Open Mind is a nonprofit organization founded by current and former KMS parents and alumni parents, who felt strongly about extending the KMS experience to all families and educators. Dedicated to the development and education of children, Open Mind is focused on developing KMS into a teaching and learning model in order to carry forth the innovation and excellence that has affected thousands of children and parents since Open Mind began. Through the development and dissemination of its child-directed approach and unique curricular components, the goals and objectives of Open Mind aim to achieve the following outcomes for our children and our school:


Timeline

1995

A group of current and alumni KMS parents who had been scholarship tuition recipients got together and decided to establish Open Mind, a nonprofit organization dedicated to: promoting the KMS child-centered, experiential approach to education; assisting middle- and low-income families to obtain quality child care; improving and enriching educational opportunities for children in the San Francisco area; sponsoring outreach programs to help other schools become models of educational innovation and excellence.

2000

With an eye to growth and funding flexibility,Katherine Michiels transfers ownership of the elementary school to Open Mind. KMS elementary program officially becomes a project of Open Mind. The current board decides to support and encourage community outreach which cultivates health, education and social awareness projects to the benefit of children and their families.
